How the TV size calculator works
The right TV size comes down to one thing: how much of your field of view the screen fills from where you sit. Industry bodies put numbers on this. SMPTE recommends the screen fill at least a 30° horizontal angle for a comfortable, spacious feel, while THX recommends up to 40° for an immersive, theater-like experience.
This tool converts those angles into real measurements. Tell it your seating distance and it returns the screen sizes that hit each target; tell it a screen size and it returns the distance range to sit within. Resolution matters too: because a 4K panel has four times the pixels of 1080p, you can sit closer - or go bigger - before any pixel structure becomes visible.
